Job Hunting sucks, when I first got out of school employers were looking for 2-3 years experience. Now there looking for 4-5 and must have some other knowledge of some kind. Alright, I can understand that other knowledge about the job that you are applying for would be a good thing.
I saw a job asking to have networking 2-3 experience and a degree in medical practices, now that is just asking to much, most people in the world only go to school for one thing, and that is their field of study. I have taken two courses in my life Entrepreneurship/General Business (1 year) and Networking and Hardware (2 year), so I know the ins and outs of business, I also know how to manage a network, and troubleshoot problems that come up with hardware and the basic software on client PCs. I could be a great asset to a helpdesk environment, but unfortunately I only speak one language, all helpdesk jobs I see are for bilingual individuals. The damn diversity of Canada makes it hard to find a job. Let talk about software, most of the IT field is littered with different specialized software packages, such as the ones found in accounting, medical, and law offices, all these establishments wanting employees to have extensive knowledge of the software before they start. Sorry not going to happen, to take a training program in one of those packages costs big bucks, and even if you shell out the dough to take one there is no guarantee that you get the job. Same goes for the SERVER Operating Systems (NT4/2000/*nix), you could have all the certificates in the world (you would be reeeally broke), but that means nothing if you don?t have 10-20 years (k, maybe a little high, but I have seen it) of real world experience. In ending, if any future employers see this, I am a very dedicated employee, and VERY thirsty for knowledge. I have been working in a retail store for 3 years probably seeing more problems with windows and networking (thanks to cable and DSL) then some veterans of the field. I try to keep on top of things, like the new tricks with OSs (LINUX, 2000, XP, 2K3 AdvSer, use them all at home), and with other very popular apps like Office, but don?t know if that?s going to help with finding a job? Gone hunting
