Jen had a conference in Toronto, and she invited me. π
I don’t like Toronto… wait, wait… I like Toronto, just not visiting, if that makes sense. I find it big, cold, and hard to move around. Driving sucks, and riding a motorcycle there just sounds like an accident waiting to happen with all the trolley tracks.
All the aside, things went well, and the drive wasnt to bad. We met up with one of Jen’s old friends for dinner, good dinner… She is a “foodie”, not sure if I am spelling that right, and too lazy to check, but she knows good places to eat, and all the locations, handy when in a place like Toronto.

I was dropping of Alex sometime last week, and I realized all this hot/cold weather is really messing up the roads. I mean really bad… the flattest roads I’ve been on lately are the country roads, and they aren’t really paved, just sprayed with tar and fine gravel spread on top. Let’s not talk about the potholes, I’ve seen a few that might have a small car in them… I wish I was joking, and now we are going to have rain for the next few days to hide the potholes, I better not bend a rim. π€¨
On the plus side, as long as we don’t see snow again, there is a strong chance the roads are going to be cleaned of the mountains of salt they threw down, making the way for BIKE season to start. π I really need to rack up some KM this summer, between the kids, and the short distance to work, I’ve been lacking the last few years…
Kids had a good time with mom on Family Day, they did stuff… π

I wanted to get this done earlier, then Wednesday. So pretend it’s Monday!
Also having issues with the WordPress app, doesn’t want to connect to the site??! Working on that… DONE!
Last weekend was messed up, snowed for 2-3 days, then rained all Sunday… I really liked the snow, but the rain made a hell of a mess. All the fluffy snow banks are walls of icy doom now, along with the ruts in the road. The county didn’t have the big plows go through our streets in the neighborhood, so the streets are a bit half-assed.
Good thing I don’t have the car lowered yet, or I might be missing bits… hope I can get that done soon, want to close that gap. π
We also made a call on Saturday to go skating instead of sledding, and not sure that was the right choice, since I think this was the last time this year, because of the rain. Now it was melted, hard as hell since it’s cold, and going to be mud by the end of the week now that it’s going to warm up. Feel bad, because Sophie really likes it. She saw a friend skating, and that pushed her to skate better… so that is a win.
Beard is still… bearding?!? Getting to a second round of “lip bangs” issues (thx Jamie), and trimming is needed soon.

PS:
This was posted on Monday. π
Quick update.
Still have beard, and think I may keep for another month… don’t want to keep it too long, the fellow employees are threatening a beard shaving party. π
The head on the other hand, needs to get shaved, it’s just too damn long. Did the last bit… π
Not sure if i’m offended by the beard shaving party yet…. π
Besides, beards get in the way of helmets, unless it’s a helmet the size of a Kippah… still have no clue why then even make them that small. Smallest I would go is a 3/4, but I would need a different bike, a bobber, cruiser, cafe… something different, and would require more flannel shirts. Need a big side job to get money for a new bike, and that is something that I don’t have time for.
Work is picking up with the semester change, since some of the teachers got moved around, and have no clue what the tricks are for the new rooms. Everything is going good, just a few calls.
Still working on some of the server stuff. The VPN connection is not working as expected!? I have a feeling I need to setup a firewall so the internet connection is killed off if the VPN drops… not sure why it’s not working this way already, I setup everything the same as the other system, but it could be the different versions causing the differences.
Oh… I might have broke down (saved up, to be honest) and buying a new phone… not the one I wanted, because that is still $750, and no, that is not buying the phone out right, that would be $1350-ish. Want to try something different, I have bounced from phone to phone, so I have used a few, except the Windows ones… but settled on the Pixel 2 XL. I know there is a few small things that the public doesn’t like, but I can look past that.
All for now

Yes… I may have had a lapse in judgement…
Now we have paintings all over the place.

Ok, managed to do some backend work on the site, and now have things on a new updated server. Last server was really old, I mean old… like 12.04LTS old.Β Think that is 2-3 back of the long term releases, and end of life was April 2017.Β π
Also converted the Wedding site to a static one, since I don’t modify it anymore, it was a very dated WordPress build…Β and there wereΒ issues migrating it to the new server, come to think of it, I had issues last time too. π
So yeah,
Started this over Christmas, and wanted to try some new things out with hardware, and the layout of the network. A few hiccups, have popped up, so some revisions had to be made, and shortcuts… short cutted?!?! (that’s a thing…)
Time to invest into big setups is not something I have anymore, but needless to say I am trying for virtualized environment. this is something I have had before, but the hardware at the time wasn’t what I have now. Still thinking about swapping the host OS out, but see what I can come up with. Also need to get the other VM setup, so I can drop the old server altogether, and wipe it… and do something else with it…
Old habits die hard. π
Dad seems to be doing OK, txt’ed with mom, I wanted to Skype/Facetime this weekend, but time got away from us… me… I’ll be honest π

He lives…
Alright, the heart did stop, and CPR was performed at the hospital, and a pacemaker is installed.
My loving wife did some research, and seems that the condition is referred to as “heart block”, and it is one of the best of a bad situation. But time will tell after the appointments to figure out what happened on my mom’s 71st birthday.
My dad had some warning signs, with some light headedness, and one other blackout, but this time he also smacked his chin hard on a table, and cut it good, six stitches good… and then passed out again on the couch, that’s when 911 was called. After that was the CPR issue, and pacemaker install.
So… big scare.
Flew here.
Had a date with a pretty lady… (Thanks Nicole)
Squeeze my mom…
Saw my grandma…
And these trouble makers stopped by…
Also missed my wife and kids, like I am missing a huge part of me…
Leaving for home tomorrow.
Happy every is ok.
Love you dad.

Not sure how to start this.. but I’m typing on a plane in flight to Thunder Bay, and of course I choose to do this just as the it starts to get bumpy, so forgive spelling.
First time on a turbo prop plane, and atm is quite the ride.
First week back to work didn’t go to well, ended up falling victim to a cold/flu, was in for Monday, but as of Tuesday things were going down hill. Left work early on Tuesday, and Wednesday was on my ass watching the walls melt, feeling distant, and numb. Thursday, was still off, and stayed home, but by the end of the day was looking up…
Now comes the reason I’m on a plane, see Thursday (Jan 11th) is my mom’s birthday, and the kids were home, so I was going to Skype/iMessage to wish her a happy birthday. Just as I was going to call to start, my mom calls me saying my dad was in the hospital with heart issues, but everything is ok, and he is stable, and resting.
Needless to say, I was a bit shaken…
So, I’m going for a visit.
Should also mention that I am going from 10C to -26C… my face might hurt.
